The Final Touch
I took the Rat back to Horton’s to see if they could figure out where the vibration was coming from. Ross agreed that it was more than just the solid mounts causing the problem.
I left the car there for them to play with and went to work. Later that day Ross called to tell me that he couldn’t find anything wrong anyplace on the car. He agreed with me that it must be the flywheel. So I told him to pull the transmission again.
The next day I went back to pick up the car. I started it up and gave it a good rev… the vibration was gone, mostly. It was still quite loud and there were vibrations, but now it was much more reasonable. I can’t say this will ever be a car you will want to use to take a lady on a date, but it will work for track duty.
I drove the car home and gave it a bit more of a shake down. I might have to wear ear plugs when driving it, but the whole noise and vibration thing is starting to grow on me. This thing is starting to feel like a tough little car now.
Monday will be the first track day for the car. I hope she holds together.
One other interesting little thing about the car. The original manuals all seem to be still with the car. This is pretty unusual. They all seem to be in the original wallet that came from the dealer. Pretty cool really.
